I was running a 7.2 system not too long ago and with this system, I was able
to play Myth II, Heretic II, and Terminus under linux. Since upgrading to
8.0, I find it impossible to play any of my linux games. Under 8.0:

I was able to play a short while with heretic2 IF I didn't login to a window
environment. KDE 2.1.1 refuses to allow the game to have a fullscreen,
insisting on making it a fullsize window instead (kpanel remains at the
bottom and there is a window border around the game screen). The game is
unplayable in this state as any mouse movement within the game immediately
crashes it.

On the other hand, if I do not patch heretic2 I am able to play it for a
short while if I start it from "failsafe" - an xterm. This is ONLY the
unpatched game. The game actually plays fullscreen and with hardware
acceleration for a while but then consistently crashes at a certain point
early in the game (hence, the two patches that are available).

If I patch the heretic2 game, it becomes absolutely unplayable on Mandrake
8.0 but this was not the case in 7.2. In 7.2, the unpatched heretic2 played
and crashed as above. If I patched it, it played just fine - in both cases
even if started from within KDE 2.0 and 2.1, which DID allow the game to go
to fullscreen mode. I was also able to play Myth2 and Terminus. Since
upgrading to 8.0, both games refuse to start, crash X and/or freeze up the
system requiring a hard reboot. This did not happen with Mandrake 7.2.
