mkisofs has the function embedded in its name of building an iso file
from a set of directory and file structures.
The CD-Writing HOWTO contains a good example of how to loopback-mount
an iso file so as to render all its contents readable (not writable!)
as normal files which may be copied out to elsewhere and so made
writeable.
