It would not be a good idea to update to 8.0 unless you are willing to use 
kernel 2.2.19.  The other has some issues with mouse detection specifically 
for thinkpads and contains software (as do all distros with kernel 2.4) that 
are DANGEROUS to some thinkpads, though ours is not loaded or activated by 
default.  The kernel support for software (lm_sensors) that has the potential 
to make a factory return of some thinkpad models is there.

If you do update, cancel the X configuration, and select 
kernel22-2.2.19-10mdk as a package to install, then make it your primary boot.

If you have reiserfs partitions, updating would be an even worse idea as the 
new one in 8.0 is not backwards compatible and you cannot freely switch 
kernels.
