Hello:

I am using LM 7.2 on my IBM TP i1200. It took a considerable amount of
effort to get X to work on this little one, mainly because the video
card (SMLynx+) is partially supported (and even now, I have to boot to
MSWindows first to properly initialize it). I am told that the new
XFree86 included with LM 8.0 has better support for it, plus other
improvements in general. I am considering upgrading, but I am reluctant
to jump directly into it, since I use this computer as my main
development system, and there is lots of things that I could lose if
something goes wrong. I have always made a backup when upgrading in the
past, but I always wind up doing a complete reinstall of the new
version, and then spend several days trying to get things to work they
were before. I am sure most of you know what I mean. Is the upgrade
procedure from 7.2 to 8.0 a "better" one now, or should I again backup,
reinstall, and waste several days one more time trying to get everything
to work? I would appreciate your advise. Thank you.
