In July, saw a web page pointed to by lwn.net that compared 
ext2, ext3, reiserFS, XFS, JFS and VFAT.  Overall, JFS & ext3
came out ahead in speed tests, with ext2 right behind.  Reiser
was middle of the pack, then XFS and VFAT far behind.

Been using Reiser since 8.0 came out, and even when doing 
clean boots, then lack of need to do an fsck on 40GB & 60GB
disks was a big relief...
