I think you missed a part of my message which was to also include the information from lsmod. This is important to know what is actually being loaded into your kernel. I would say that the output of dmesg is also helpful but at this point it is probably a little overkill. However, if you could include the output of lspci that would be helpful (assuming this is a PCI Ethernet card). As for the sound card, not familiar with that model. What happens if you type modprobe au8810 from a prompt as root? Do you get sound?
