Guy,

I think your still a bit confused about what civileme was saying. From my
recollection of your original post, you initially had your system configured
to use your modem to access the internet. (or that is the way the install
configured your system) You now have an ethernet card and a serial modem
installed in your system. You want to use the ethernet card and your cable
modem to access the internet and you want the serial modem to "shut up" and
let you do it. The problem is that your network configuration still thinks
your serial modem is the default route to the internet and has no idea what to
do with your ethernet card or cable modem.

To solve the problem, follow the steps that civileme suggested. What he is
having you do is reconfigure your network configuration so that your ethernet
card (eth0) is the default route to the internet instead of your USR modem.
The configuration that needs to be done has nothing to do with your USR modem
being on or off. You basically just have to configure your box to look to your
network card for the internet connection instead of looking to the USR modem
for the connection.

I haven't played with LM8.0, basically because 7.2 works flawlessly for
me. If they still have linuxconf in 8.0, give that a try to configure your
ethernet card.
