I use the same technique. It works with the Fuji Finepix 1400, the Casio QV series, the Toshiba PDR series, and I have viewed reports that it works with the Olympus models as well. If it's a USB camera, there should be no problem with mounting the memory card as a SCSI device, and then reading it as a drive. Also, it doesn't matter whether the card is smartmedia or compactflash - I have used the same method with both types.
