Ok... Now we resort to taking shots at folks.
1. I use my pc for far more than "making pop music". In fact, I don't make "pop" music. It's true Detroit Techno, Drum and Bass, and Deep House (FYI). I also use my pc for graphic design, 3D animation, web design, and gaming.
2. I'm not a newbie, I've been using Linux for 2 years now (Mandrake 6.1-8.1) and I've got 19 years of computing under my belt (and I'm only 29 years old, imagine that).
3. I agree that some linux software is more advanced than a Win32 equivalent (in cases where one exists). But, there are many places where it is simply behind. Most notably, the areas that I work in the most.
Oh, as for "doing something else", as of last night, I got back into programming C (something I gave up in 1991 for music and art). You'll hear more from me on that soon enough.
What I've said about the overwhelming number of packages and ease of install and use has been echoed over and over all over the net. In many a review you hear this. In many a complaint, you hear this. Guys like Mr. Rivoire seem to ignore this and Linux, I wonder why? It's not THE issue, per say, but it is one of many that some people have with linux.

and if window$ was working , m$ would have a winner on there hands. its just
not the way it is. i really think this is not the point. linux music apps
are not ready the newbie agreed. but linux software is in some respect way
more advanced already.people who care to do something else with computer and
music than pop music have known that for a long time.
