ok, i'm late on this thread.... kill me. =) but as was said by others, i think it has a lot to do with hardware. i have 2 boxes.
my main box, P2 250MHz, 188M RAM compaq piece of crap. running MKD 7.2 my "beta box" which i experiement on. SCSI CD burner which reads, but doesn't burn (it's broken), 64M RAM, P1, 100MHz. running 8.0 beta 3 so I get my 8.1 CDs, and test it on the beta box. installs perfect. decided to put it on my important box . . . 2 days of total disaster. 6 attempts at installing. 3 of them never even made it thru the install routine, the other 3 left me with nonworking systems, or a system where i didn't install software off CD 2 or 3 and could not add the software on those CDs by using the software manager. I ended up going back to 7.2 which was up and running in about 4 hours. that includes me installing and setting up all my software that isn't part of the mandrake package. yea, I was really really really pissed for a while.... but that's life. i'll just be sticking with 7.2. besides, do I really nead the new flashy KDE? especially since I haven't used KDE in ages. I mean really... 8.1 has what that 7.2 doesn't? besides a prettier interface? adrian
