I can't answer question #2 for you, but I can answer question #1... At 09:19 AM 12/14/01 -0500, you wrote: >I picked up mandrake 8.1 and found severals faults with it... > >1.) Why would one buy the standard version without a video/audio player for >the internet such as real player. <snip>
Quite simply some people do not want one or need one. I read recently that Real Player is the second most installed program on Windoze systems after Notepad. (This info was from a statement from the CEO of Real Networks so its validity is probably questionable.) It makes sense, everyone I know has it on their computer, but it doesn't take into account how many people actually use it. I have it installed on my Windoze box, but I can't recall the last time I turned it on for any reason. 98% of the websites I visit do not contain that type of multimedia content. Of those websites that do, there are very few times that I wish to view that content. This of course is my personal preference. For other people, the Real Player is probably indispensable to them. They use it to catch up on the news or sports scores. They may use it to watch clips of their favorite TV shows, or listen to Internet radio broadcasts. I guess it all boils down to what someone does with their computer and what the do while on the Internet. Personally I could live without the player. HTH, Ivan
