Well, if you have tried that and booted from CD2 with an alternate 
image, it may be failing at uncompressing the ramdisk (in other words, a 
media vs CD drive problem)  Alternate media or an alternate CD drive 
would be my first moves next.  After that....  Hmmm I know some people 
with that model actually working under 8.1 so my guess is media.
