I saw the note and tried su - as well. Now I know why Linux makes such a bulletproof server - it refuses to go down!

[root@penguin root]# ... ''' The broadcast messages appear on my vnc session, but I keep running. I checked my security level, it is set to low. I set it to high using the Mandrake control center, it seemed to process the setting, but stopping the control center and restarting it shows my security level is still at low??? I managed to create a new user in the root group but can't seem to get another telnet session going. Will reboot one way or another and try that next.
