Samba is one approach, and the one I would recommend at this point in my
Linux sojourn.  You'd need to set up a Samba server on each machine
(and, I guess, a Samba client, but maybe that comes almost automatically
if you set up Samba servers).  So far, I have only used things like
smbclient and smbmount, I have not set up a Samba server.  I watched
someone do it graphically on a RedHat 7.2 install and it seemed simple
enough -- never tried it myself and didn't catch all the details of what
he did.
