The only thing I can add to the advice you've already been given is some personal experience. What I've always done during the install of the 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, etc) linux distro is at the bootloader stage. I have always skipped the bootloader stage, finished the install, then booted into my old "stable" install and added a line to either lilo.conf or grub's menu.lst for the new install.
