Lemme get this right. You wanted to replace WORKING SERVERS with a
brand new release before the updates to fix last-minute problems had
even been released?

The controlling files are the same as any other linux that complies
mostly with LSB (and anyone who claims full compliance when the official
software to test such compliance is still in Beta is the second category
of liar). LSB/FHS is also less than most think it is. For example. it
gives no directions on where to put desktop software... does it go into
/usr as an integral part of the system or in /opt/<packagename> as an
add-in? Can be argued either way, and the LSB provides no guidance, and
the FHS stops exactly at leaving the question wide open.

But I suppose you could do better on servers with RH 4.0 or vanilla
kernel 1.4.2 than with the current distro. At least few files would be
unfamiliar. I am sorry that the growth of linux in general has
distressed you.

And the standard text tools are concealed behind some GUI tools to make
our server stuff compete not against other linux servers but against the
NT server world. If that makes you uncomfortable, then find a system
that makes you comfortable, by all means. Just stick with alternatives
to Billy.
