Installed?  

Also did you set the default dictionary to en-american-pspell (or
the English you speak) it's under the Configuration > Common
Preferences > Spell Checker tabs.

First I had to enable spell checking  then chose the dictionary
finally chose the mode (Fast Normal or Bad Speller) and it started
working.
