1) I doubt that he will ever do much with the sound on this box. I really did add it as an afterthought. The video will be a G200 Matrox I got at a swap meet also. 2) I chose the video and sound for easy, out of the box configurability without special drivers or troubles and good performance. He will never use more than two speakers, or do serious gaming. He does serious programming and computing. We could always upgrade the vid/aud later if needed. Linux makes that easy. Are there any performance problems with the SB 128 PCI ? I am still happy with my oldie SB64AWE ISA card ! (even when watching DVDs) We have agreed to spring for the Antec case with the 400W AMD certified pwr supply.
