Good Call on the case. No.. there are no problems with the PCI card... Don't get me wrong, I really like my on board SB128 on my server, I just figured for the money.
If you're gonna be doing programming then you definetly want the 512MB of memory though. Perhaps even more considering its current price (and that is will most likely be becoming more expensive soon). given the price and availablity of superior video solutions why not pickup a cheap ATI rage 128/128pro for like 30-40$ used. It would offer better 2D performance, especially at the higher resolutions, and if he ever began to play with linux 3D he'd probably be a little better off then with that really old Matrox.
