I've got a Sony DCR-TRV25E which I can connect via a usb cable. It's not in the list of working USB devices, but it is a mass storage device.
It's detected happily enough: Oct 9 11:54:50 nickel kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 4 Oct 9 11:54:50 nickel kernel: usb.c: USB device 4 (vend/prod 0x54c/0x2e) is not claimed by any active driver.
