Sure... you can do anything you want with it once you've downloaded the source. He's not going to dictate how you use it on your own machine. It's just how to pass it on to others if in a pre-compiled format. I respect that... makes his job (or the community's job) of support so much easier.At any rate, I use djbdns because there is nothing better for my needs. I'm confident that it will work, as advertised, all of the time. I've not been let down in over a year now. Since I don't haveOne of these days I'll have to install djbdns (breaking the license, of course...I hate his "installation conventions" rules) and see how it goes.
