This is sort of tangential to the EOL discussion but... Is it possible to use drakautoinst to automate an effectively upgrade a machine from one release to another? Rather than try to use the upgrade option which so rarely succeeds it seems like it wouldn't necessarily be hard to automate the process I follow when do a clean install (wiping the / partition but leaving /home alone) and use drakautoinst as the foundation.
Apart from the perl script itself I've been unable to find _any_ documentation (man, info, nada) on this tool (if there is any to be had). I'm assuming that the current version automates the install process only for the current OS version and thus would need to be extended to do what I'm talking about. It seems like this is part (not necessarily the biggest part) of the problem with releases that are end-of-lifed. For me the EOL thing is not a problem because a) I understand what a resource drain it is to support old version of the product that generate very little revenue and b) packages of new software tend not to get created for any release other than the current one. I understand the issue with security updates but if Corporate Server were also supported by a cross release drakautoinst tool the problems would be mitigated. Anyway, what's the story with drakautoinst? ::mark
