[ i'm resending this, as i forgot to suppress the Reply-to in the other ]

just a quick check: does Linux still have problems with software modems ?

i use broadband normally, but occasionally it goes down
& i need to use my (free) university dial-up connection.
the modem in my present box dates from 2000 & fits an ISA slot,
which my new box doesn't have, so i can't recycle it.
my favorite store has PCI dial-up modems for CAD 14 - 30 ,
but two of them are listed as "software" ( AOpen FM56-SVV or PX )
& the other is an OEM w/o further description ( PC Tel ).

is it possible i mt run into problems with them using Mdk 9.2 ?
