that site seems to be  >= 1 yr  out of date,
which suggests things may have improved since those times.
quite a few AOpen modems are listed, but they seem earlier models:
the  2  at my local store are described as

  Conexant CX11252-11 single chip HSFi V.92 (model FM56SVV )
  Conexant CX06834-11 single chip HOOVER V.92 (model FM56PX );

the Linmodems list gives only  FM56SV  &  FM56P .
nearly all the AOpen models listed have a pretty penguin next to them,
so mb that's meant as encouragement.

it looks as if my best bet is the AOpen for  CAD 20  (SVV).
it's only supposed to be needed very occasionally, if ever.
