why 'rsync'?  the man file says it's for use over a network.
'cp' shd do the job just as well.

on my new larger HDD i do intend to have a part'n  /bkp
& i already have a script for backing up the dirs i need to back up,
so making a cron job out of these items is the likely sol'n.
