Several ideas:
- Are the "mute" checkboxes unchecked? (Can't describe what they look
like, as I don't have a Linux machine here at the moment)
- Can you play wav/au files or hear sound when using xmms? If not,
also check "Mute" and volume settings on "Mixer" and "Main".
- On my MDK 9.1 box, I did have a very strange problem related to
this: I would only get sound if I put the volume not quite to 100%.
90% would be fine, while at 100% everything fell silent. It didn't
bother me enough to investigate this further, so I can't say what
exactly is going wrong there, but maybe it's something to try for
you.
