This reminds me of a guy I once tried to show how to work on a computer.
I showed him to start a program using the "start" command in a
DOS-window (that was on Windows).

It took me a long time to explain to him the difference between the menu
and his computer. He thought that what is not on the menu or showing as
icon on his desktop is just not there.

You still have all these programs (terminal, console, mcc and all
others), they just don't show up on the menu. There's no catch at all.
You just should read up a bit about the command line.

Or, if you are using KDE, read up on KDE which gives you a perfect mini
command line to start applications which are not on the menu. You don't
know which word to type for to start a terminal?

No problem, read up on how to find files, i.e. locate, slocate,
which,...

There's no catch anywhere, just a lack of reading. If you are a newbie
you just have to do a bit of reading to get a basic understanding of
your system. If you have used the system for some time and you don't
know about all this, you have started playing Bach compositions on your
piano without doing the finger training part.

Sooner or later it'll come back to you.

This is not a kind of newbie bashing, it's just a reminder on the
importance to learn the basics.
