I have borked my main.cf file in the past, not to the point of turning my system into an open relay (which isn't broken, just badly configured...a nice way to get your hostname dropped into a blackhole list) but to the point of screwing up postfix operation. I have merely reverted to wildtype (original main.cf) and started over.
