There are 4 components to the electrical system that make the 494 run... The Coil, The CDI box, The Stator and the Trigger. The Coil and CDI are external to the engine. The Stator is contained within the flywheel and the trigger is mounted under the plastic cover on top of the flywheel (the flywheel is on the end of the engine with the recoil starter and can be accessed by removing the recoil starter. The connections between these components are 'fool proof' as the connectors can only go together correctly. The trigger is easiest to check, pop the plastic cover and see if it is there. All the other components can have electrical defects that can cause a failure to fire. Not being electrically gifted or knowledgeable, the only thing I know to do is to throw new electrical part at it until it runs.
