Basically you have to seal up the engine and then pressurize it.
As Greg stated earlier, by blocking the exhaust and intakes with
some kind of airtight method.. Home-made plates sealed with old
inner tubes can work. I use a small hand pressure pump with
a check valve connected to the crankcase impulse port ( same place
fuel pump line goes ) I'll pump it up to about 10 psi and use a
soapy mixture and check for leaks at  ALL seals and gaskets
looking for bubbles.
2-cycles do not like air leaks!!!
This is a pretty standard thing to do on 2-stokes, anybody who
works on them would be familar with it.
