Chris,

If SCCA would waive 1 driver's school if someone had a certain amount of
Kart experience and was going to a driver's school in a F500 we might be
making some progress.

If I can make a suggestion.... The problem isn't with getting older people
involved, for the class to grow you need younger drivers coming in. It
would be nice if there were a way to get a driver straight from karts into
F500 without all the baloney involved with schools and blah, blah, blah..
If you could convince the SCCA to recognize karting and the skills
involved to be acceptable starting point, and that the F500 class would be
the place for them to start, then I think you would have a good ladder
system which this country is lacking...

I think Joe's got some very good ideas here. There is no doubt that a good
marketing campaign to the right audience can/would be very effective. I
would be glad to participate in that kind of effort.

I manage the advertising department of a daily newspaper in NW Washington
and have been in advertising/marketing as a career for the past 17 years. I
believe in it and have seen it work for businesses small and large (read
budgets here) so I am confident that we can be successful as well. I'd be
happy to lend any of my experience to process.

And yes Joe, you're right about moving up. I'm working on it so hopefully
be early next season I too will be a national class driver.

Classmates,

I'll contribute towards a SportsCar ad and gladly buy/run an F5 slogan
prominently on my car. I'd also gladly wear an F5 Slogan T-shirt and cap at
every event I run.

Somebody suggested another "Improvement Items list" targeted at increasing
our National numbers. So far I think the list includes . . .

1) Regional drivers step-up to Nationals
2) Collection for a year-long SportsCar ad
3) F5 Slogan for decals, T-shirts, hats, etc. (also key to #2)
4) All active F5ers proactively recruit, especially at the track

I added #4 and all it takes is all our commitment to talk to our fellow
racers and let them know about the merits of our class. Here's some of the
talking points . . . out of 32 classes (Nat & Reg only) F5 Ranks #1 in
affordability and #7 in lap-times on most circuits, based on analysis from
MyLaps.com and Results Sheets posted on Divisional websites.

#1 also simply takes the commitment of our fellow Regional drivers . . .
step up guys and gals . . . yes, gals, we have own F5 version of Danica
Patrick right here in Texas, Jane Nixon, hopefully making her way to
National License over the next season.

#2 simply takes all our monetary commitments and somebody to coordinate.
Cory, would you volunteer to coordinate? All we need is the costs from
Sportscar for the different size and locations of ads and then a collection.
A simple spreadsheet can provide the tracking & record.

#3 will take a slogan submission period, followed by voting on them, in
parallel with monetary commitments to buy decals/T-Shirts/Hats, etc. (to
cover costs) followed by printing/production of items. I'll vounteer to
collect slogan submissions and coordinate the vote - so start them coming .
. . let's hear your best slogans - winner of the slogan contest will get a
free decal/T-shirt/Hat, or whatever we end up printing. Also, let me know
your commitment to buy decals, T-shirts, Baseball caps . . . what we order
will depend on the quantity desired of each - so again, the more we each
commit to, the more we'll all have access to in promoting our class. I
always buy/keep racing T-shirts and hats in my trailer to give to my
volunteer crew . . . why not do the same and promote our class at the same
time. Anyone out there have access to a quality printing business that
would throw us a great deal (near cost) for these items?

I'll try to add another page to the F5 Improvements Site for submission &
voting on this stuff . . . but that's very time consuming and I'm swamped at
work. I may end-up just doing it via E-mail and a spreadsheet, so don't
wait . . . reply with your slogan ideas and commitments.

Lastly, hit the list with any more class promotion ideas to add to these
four.

We've got the greatest class in SCCA . . . let's stop talking/writing about
this stuff and JUST DO IT !!!

Thanks.

Shiny Side Up,
Joe Palmer

win national races? This slogan may be too esoteric to attract new people
to the SCCA, but I think it would work for people who are familiar with SCCA
and trying to decide whether they can afford to club race, or looking for a
class, or sick of dumping tons of money into engine rebuilds, shock dynos,
illegal Spec Miata engines, etc. I also think it targets the type of racer
that would be attracted to F500 (as accurately described in several recent
posts). I would be willing to help fund a 12 month ad in the SportsCar
classifieds if a few other will join me.

cars. It may sound corny but may get some attention. "Eats F. Fords for
breakfast at 1/3 the price" .....Maybe something that refers to its
reliability too. Coming from nearly 15 years in G and F prod I can tell you
that this is the class for me. I can actually relax and eat now at the
races. If we all put our heads together I believe we can come up with a
promotion for our class and increase the numbers and interest. COST is a
factor. I've never gone so fast for so little money. Tom Manalio, Ocala, FL

intrest in the f500 in Louisiana without much success.. The people who see
the cars really like them but can't seem to reach enough people... I've even
bought extra cars and picked up most fees and still having problems finding
people to drive them. Any suggestions Rory
