Racers ! Just got an update from our WDCR SCCA (DC Region) Comp Committee and am posting it as an FYI ! More than likely other Regions will be addressing these same issues in timely fashion, the DC region is maybe the first out of the box ! Gil Gil - What is SS Miata - if it is Showroom Stock, why aren't the grouped in with SSB & SSC where they rightfully belong? This is just the first cut of the gigantic gaffe that the BOD has formented with the granting of 5 new National classes and the authorization of ITR for Regional's. While the BOD only looked at the 'Lottery' effect for the Runoff's with the addition of the National classes they totally overlooked the effects the additional classes would have on normal Regional and National race schedules. SCCA is a victim of it's own success. There are only so many daylight hours each day and there are only so many raceable weekends in each year. Couple that with track demand from other organizations and the BOD's capitulation of it leadership position by authorizating additional National classes without having them prove their market by growing from a Regional base and you have the mess you are seeing in the DC Region. >From the Formula car perspective I am afraid it is going to take a catastrophic incident for each Regions race organization to realize that putting Atlantic's and FV's with their speed differential on the track at the same time is UNSAFE in the extreme. However, the decreased car count that exists now will become more pronounced as drivers from all Formula classes that value their safety will find other venues for their fun, or leave the sport entirely. DC Region is not the first to throw all Formula cars together, and I am afraid it will not be the last. Chuck McAbee SEDIV #16 What this now means is that the race groups have once again been reshuffled and remixed. These are the new unofficial (cuz I may have goofed writing them down) race groups: 1) Spec Miata 2) SS Miata 3) ITB/ITC 4) ITS/ITA/ITR (I'm gonna get creamed....) 5) SRX7/IT7/SSB/SSC 6) Small Bore/T4 (new class) 7) Big Bore/T1/T2/P1/P2 (the last two are the two new classes for World Challenge cars) 8) SRF/CSR/DSR 9) FV/FF/CF/F500 (all open wheel) All car counts for each race group "should" be in the 30's..... The meeting was then adjourned.....
