I completely differ in that opinion that it helps axial compression.. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, 27 Nov 2006 9:26 AM Subject: Re: [F500] to hans or not to hans
There are a few who differ in this opinion. Although not designed to do so, it does limit the amount the helmet can be depressed. A few open wheelers have complemented their HANS on stopping compression in a roll over. The other good thing to do is ensuring you are low enough below the roll hoop...seems to be missing for a few people. Didn't take much to raise the hoop on my car four inches. I like my eggs not scrambled. jim ----- Original Message ---- From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, November 27, 2006 9:36:19 AM Subject: Re: [F500] to hans or not to hans Remember what a hans device is made to do.. It only helps prevent basilar skull fractures. The weight of the helment acts like a fulcrum when the shoulders are tired down. Also remember that we are in open wheel cars The hans device does nothing for axial loading (getting hit on top of the head) Which will cause a brust fracture or cord compression. In karting more neck collar type devices are used to prevent axial loading so look at your car would you more likely go head first into a solid barrier or flip and have something you on top of the head. Remember the hans is a very good device for high speed front impact crashes but it does not help in axial loading..Rory -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, 26 Nov 2006 11:37 PM Subject: [F500] to hans or not to hans I'm thinking of doing the apexspeed group buy, but a HANS is still a bunch of money. How many of you are using a HANS device now? Do you think it will become manditory? At the speeds F500s travel are neck injuries/ neck pain common in a crash. --------------------------------- Sponsored Link Degrees online in as fast as 1 Yr - MBA, Bachelor's, Master's, Associate - Click now to apply ________________________________________________________________________ Check Out the new free AIM(R) Mail -- 2 GB of storage and industry-leading spam and email virus protection. ________________________________ FormulaCar Magazine - A Proud Supporter of Formula 500 The Official Publication of Junior Formula Car Racing Subscribe Today! www.formulacarmag.com or 519-624-2003 _________________________________ _______________________________________________ F500 mailing list - [email protected] To unsubscribe or change options please visit: http://f500.org/mailman/listinfo/f500 *** Please, DO NOT send unsubscribe requests to the mailing list! ***
