I had the same question on this list a few months ago with no takers.
The nice thing about the Type 453 Rotax is that it has been used by snowmobile
racers for years and is a very popular class. Gee, maybe if some of those
snowmobile racers knew they could simply plug in their engines to one of our
cars we might see the class grow. What a novel idea. Anyway, lots of
aftermarket parts and used engines out there for the Rotax Type 453. Here's

Is there some reason
that the model 453 with 440cc and 92 hp wouldn't be a 
suitable alternative.
The hp # seem OK to an uninformed soul like myself and 
if BRP is OK with
making them today presumably they would be for some time 
to come so, it would
seem a reasonable choice.
