Jim, I'm glad you have calmed down before you decided to post additional statements. But I really think you should have waited much longer :-).
".....ADEQUATE warning"? What do you think Tony's post was about? What would you have preferred, a private message from Bombardier addressed to "Jim"? Perhaps you should email Bombardier and suggest to them that there was a "....serious lack of communication" when they decided to discontinue the 493. I'm sure they would be interested in hearing your viewpoint. I'll even help you out with their address if you wish :-). ".....he could have communicated many more times and in stronger terms long ago in order to get this group's attention (this can be a hard thing to do). He could have acted as a stronger liaison between the F500 group and Rotax management...." Communicate what Jim? That his crystal ball said Bombardier was going to discontinue the 493 on December 31, 2006? This is amusing. And Jim, you have no idea what his relationship was with Bombardier and how much he supported the production of this engine for our use. All your statements addressing this issue are pure conjecture on your part and totally flawed. Your putting up with what I said or not is of course, your choice. But, if you make statements in a public forum that are outlandish or not based upon facts, you should expect to be called on them. There was no emotion involved with what I said and none now. I don't respond to folks under those conditions. I was just responding to the points you made with serious intent of suggesting that you were flirting with reality. Your comments posted tonight concerning Tony's involvement with Rotax, SCCA, and this list are based upon misinformation and illusion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but if you really believe that Tony never tried to further cement his relationship with SCCA or with this list, or constantly talked about our needs with Rotax, you are sadly mistaken. Ignoring his past appearances at the National Runoffs to help Rotax people, his letters to Topeka offering help or support, his supplying Topeka with Rotax parts, engines, schematics and printed information on part numbers etc., his periodic posts to this list, and his almost daily private conversations with F5 members is incredulous. With the exception of his private communications with folks, SCCA totally ignored most of his past offers of assistance or help. This was very disconcerting to Tony but nevertheless true. I'm sure Tony will be very pleased to know that you think he hasn't done much to help or support F5 folks interested in the Rotax 493. He has tried everything to encourage use of this engine accept floating loans for people. Wait a minute, I take that back. Last year he did offer to finance people who might be interested in buying the engine :-). Offering just another mention of his total support for the 493 in SCCA would be his "donation" of the first 493 to Don Clar for initial testing. He didn't have to do that. He could have just sat back and let the F5 folks figure out their future by themselves. But their own engine for testing. It goes on but I don't think you care to hear it. Tony will never comment on any of this on a public forum, but if you call him, perhaps, just perhaps, he'll speak to you even though you have insulted him and have tried to downgrade his helpfulness. Then again, ......maybe he won't :-). Bottom line here Jim is that I grow tied of this conversation and providing daily chuckles to folks. If you want to take this off list and give all the others a break, you know my email address. You can scream at me all you want or make all the statements you want. Nothing will change much, but from my perspective, at least I'll be able to tell you how I really feel :-). Now, back to what I said and your reaction to it: 1. I was reacting to the 493 discontinuance announcement that had no ADEQUATE warning - this is a serious lack of communication. 2. Although Tony (and I like Tony, personally) could not have prevented it, he could have communicated many more times and in stronger terms long ago in order to get this group's attention (this can be a hard thing to do). He could have acted as a stronger liaison between the F500 group and Rotax management about this situation in getting our group to buy more motors and in pleading our side of the story to Rotax along with being the messenger between the two. 3. A prime management principle that I have always operated by is "due diligence" and in this case it means gathering all the relevant evidence and talking with all affected parties (F500 is the ONLY party here as there is no other market) BEFORE making any decision. This was obviously not done so I called it as I see it, thus no apology is due. Now, we move on to looking at the long term approach of ensuring a good supply of motors. Yes, I also like Dave Gill's committee proposal.
