Let me re-phrase that...You need to look at another manufacturer's production line!!! If you want to look 5, 10, 15 years down the road than number one, forget 2 strokes, and number two, update the cars. CR [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The production line (barely) is where we have looked in the past. We get an engine approved and within a year it's discontinued. Then we start the hand wringing, bike motor debates and everything else all over. We are OK for the moment but we need to plan ahead... 5, 10 , 15 YEARS ahead. We need to streamline the approval process for new engines as well as get on the upside of the production curve. If we are in sync with the manufacturer it will be more likely that our demand will be in place to help an engine stay in production. Its already been said here that because SCCA dragged its feet on approval that nobody bought the 493. If Rotax has an engine in the prototype stage, say the 4XX, and we start the process with SCCA then maybe the 4XX will be approved by the time it becomes available. Something else we need is to stop worrying about parity. Lets face it these motors are all different from each other. But we can buy complete, new engines for less than other classes spend to rebuild. And with few exceptions almost any car can accept any engine ---- Chris Reinhardt wrote: > The drawing board is not the place to look, production line would better. > > CR > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > I think what we need to be doing is talking to a couple manufacturers to see what they have on the drawing board, scheduled for production to START in the next 2 - 3 years. Then get those engines approved. You have a couple years for SCCA to react and for people to reach the end of the service life of their current engines. Also time for car builders to do their thing. This way we will have a supply of engines, new engines, for some time to come. > > Allen > > > ---- Jan Schmidt wrote: > > I am surely jumping the gun here, but I can see it now... > > Weights: > > Kawi.........700 lbs > > Rotax 440..750 lbs > > AMW .......775 lbs > > 494..........800 lbs > > 493..........825 lbs > > Although it might be fairer to have the amw and rotax 440 switch > > positions (weights) > > Just a thought?
