Lee,
I don't know if anyone replied to your question. In my opinion, your are
much better off with the oil injection. The pump has three output ports.
One for each carb, and one the oils the center main and seals and the rod
ends. I think that the trouble people are having with rod ends is because
they are not using the pump. Kawasaki designed it this way for a reason.
If your pump has been disconnected, it may have been disconnected for a
reason. You should thoroughly check out the operation and volume of the
pump and the banjo fittings before you run your engine. A compete
description of how to do this is in the shop manual.

My motor has the oil injection disconnected and the previous owner was
pre-mixing. I notice the motor kind of loads up at idle. Could this be
caused by a too rich situation at idle due to the pre-mix? Would I be
better off going back to the injection?

[F500] Faster Engines (maybe)

OK Gang - how about this.
I've been reading all the about engines and even trying to stir things
up a bit, but to me, it looks like the current engines will get us along for
at least 5 years or more and then we can let our children, or for some of
us, grandchildren, worry about it.
Now I know that most, if not all of us owner/operator/drivers, have a bit of
desire to do something just a little different. I have thought about this
some and I think I have an idea the might work for those who want to tinker
with their engines or who just are not satisfied with running the same
engine that grandma runs in her snowmobile.
Introducing FX500 ! ! ! ! !
What it is - is our standard F500 car with the standard rules and safety
requirements, BUT the engine can be ANY 2 cycle engine 500cc or less but
must use CVT clutch system. Regional class only.
Anything goes on the engine. Must use the same gas that we have to use now.
I can hardly wait to see what some people would drag to the race track.

They did a good job with the "Bang for the buck" message . . . until JB

tires, entry fees, then estimated "$2k per race". Ain't it more like $1k
per weekend? . . . and even less. I'm often way under that for two races
at a DN weekend. But then again, I'm cheap.

Jan,
Yeah, I caught that "Rotax only" implication, too. I
have to give them props for hammering on the "bang for
the buck" advantages of F5.
It looks like I caught a good DVD recording of this
afternoon's airing. Copies could be arranged if
anybody misses both airtimes.

Just got finished watching the race! Awesome!
However Chapparal,
Kawasaki and AMW were slighted when they were
talking about the engines.
They said someing about "Mandatory Rotax snowmobile
engines." Maybe we
can write the script for them next year? On a
different subject, what
happened to Jim Libecco in the race? I didnt see or
hear of any
incidents on the TV coverage, involving him. Jimbo,
you out there?

If the cost of all things are added in, I am in big trouble with my
budget. Most of the people I know don't count inital cost Car (3 f500's,
mazda miata, 3 go karts, 1 formula vee, this year), Trailer (22 ft
enclosed), Tow vechile ( 40' Grey hound Bus), 3 firesuits, 1 new helment, 4
pairs of shoes, underwear, GPS moitoring device, welding machine, lath, jump
box, hotel for the week when we race out of town times 3, entry fees to 24
events. 3 schools, ETC. So far this year that would be scarrrry to know how
much I've spent. My accountant should know. But if you can do this on a
budget I think that less than 1000.00 per race could be a very good number.
How much you want too run and how fast you want to go will dictate how much
you spend. The good thing about f500 is that the field is pretty level so
having deep pockets or lack of, dosen't automaticely give you an edge.

Chris,
I re-viewed my tape again, too. They actually talked about the engines 4
times. I think the 4th time is when I heard the false quote. Trouble is,
I manually taped the race without comercials and missed the beginning of
the 4th reference about engines. I am now wondering if I just heard it
wrong? Oh well, no biggy, really. What they should have said was, "
There are legal engines for this class from 4 different engine
manufacturers, but the favorite for road racing is the Rotax engine that
came in Ski-Doo snowmobiles." The runoffs drivers all had 493's or
494's. I bet nobody has run anything at the Runoffs other than Rotaxes
for 5 years or more?

Bill -
I watched the tape this morning. They referred to the engine three
separate
times. First, they said that the class required a snowmobile sourced
engine, or similar wording. Second, they said that all of the cars
"today"
are running a Rotax engine, "though that is not required." Third, the
guy
squatting next to the car talking about pucks, said that the Rotax
engine
was required.
How many folks at runoffs were running non-Rotax engines? Not unusual
in
autocrossing, I thought non-Rotax cars were rare in road racing.
Chris Eckles
Sean,
I believe you need to go back to your tape of the runoffs race. They
said, "Mandatory rotax snowmobile engine." Unless they talked about it
twice in the hour show, and I somehow missed the other quote?
