This is by now a nearly dead thread, however I would like to make a few comments.
I've been building race engines since 1961, never a VW.
From the way I read the proposed regulation, the increase in the
displacement of the VW engine will also require a reduction in carburetor size and a restriction in valve size. In general, I would expect this to result in little or no increase in peak horsepower. However, there would be an expected gain in overall performance since the peak torque would increase at low RPM. In other words, the torque/H.P. curve would shift to the left (low RPM) on a torque H.P. graph. How significant this shift would be can only be determined by a dyno test of the larger displacement engine.

I agree Chris, I just needed to make a point that we all will pay for this! Boy I sure wish the Cape Cod Sports Car Club was still running at Ottis Air Force Base. But we can't because of 9/11!

Once one is built we will really get to see what type of potential it
has. But till then we really don't know how much better it will be. Then
we can get some benefits for the F440/500's. :-)

Please don't give F500 "benefits". If the SoloVees get too fast move
them or take away some of the allowances. I personally like GCR-legal
and cheap cars. :)
