quite high maintainance race cars.  All my friends in FFords or FCs are
amazed at how much time we spend at the track working on our cars. Most of the work is just tweeking the clutches, jetting, suspension settings etc.

I think you are absolutely correct. I am constantly amazed at the guys in SRF, SM, et al, who don't do much more than put gas in and go race. In several years of running FF, I never once had engine damage that required internal repair - even after it 'swallowed' some air filter mounting nuts (when I learned that Loctite is NOT optional). In contrast, the F500 seems to burn up about once/year. Maybe it's my lack of setup and prep expertise, but it certainly seems more maintenance-intensive.
