Kart drivers wear suits that look like our SFI suits, but they are built to a different spec (40.1, IIRC). They are tested for abrasion resistance, not burn protection. The other thing that most karters wear is a rib protector. It is VERY easy to crack or separate a rib driving a fast kart without some sort of protection for your rib cage - particularly if the track is rough (ask me how I know....).
