Jay,

I took Chuck's comments to mean that the class not embracing the 493 caused
the availability of the engine via Tony Murphy to end much more quickly than
planned, not that we had anything to do with Rotax not putting them in sleds
anymore. I wish we were that important!

The reason that the 493 is out of production has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do
with our use or non use of the engine. Rotax stopped producing the engine
due to snowmobile marketing issues. The same reason there are no other
production 500cc 2 stroke engines being produced for snowmobiles anymore.

Thanks ... Jay Novak

Regarding the comment below ..
Chuck
Certainly you're entitled your opinion, regarding solo participants
here. IMO the things that derailed the 493 launch center around (1) the
poor conversion from metric to imperial measure of a Rotax dyno chart,
(2) the lack of people willing to donate anything to do dyno testing,
(3) the lack of anything more than subjective and incomplete data by the
team that was given/loaned a 493 for testing.

One last thing .. I do not recall anybody in the debate proposing a 50
lb weight penalty to the 493, as the board did. Maybe the board actually
thought about it and felt it was quite important to make sure that they
didn't invalidate the 494s which even today are regarded as very good
motors for the class.
