Just remember who buys your older GCR legal F440/F500's. We buy these cars because we like the idea that other than safety items (see some of Art's postings) our cars are all GCR legal! We race and/or Solo the same cars. The gearing and setup are just a little different. We have a newer KBS in NER with a 493 that is better than a lot of the Regional and National Road Race Cars I have seen at the tracks here in New England. I know there are others in the country. We are all in this together. I guess you could change them to the point that many of us Solo people would consider staying with what we have so I guess you could make flower pots out of your old cars and put them on your front lawn. I would bet if we took a count there are a lot more F440/F500's in Solo II than Road Racing. I also think that we may buy more tires as a group just because of the larger number of cars in Solo, even if one of us only buys one or two sets per year! At one National Tour event a few years ago, a guy and his very pretty girl friend had a new set of tires for each of the two days! Very nicely paint job on their Raptor too!

Sorry to say this, but if I were to win the lottery before Jay sells his car, it will become a Solo II car and be in my garage. Win a big enough one and the other one for sale on the web would also be picked up on my trip. Off course then I would fine some young person to race Jay's car. Oh well I can only dream of being the Roger Penski of F500! It is a nice dream isn't it?

also need to discuss the separation of the road racing rules vs. the
autocross group. what we have here are 2 totally seperate groups using the
same rules. So what we end up with is one group wanting changes and the
other group countering it! Its hard enough to get any changes as it is

The fact that you can race your F500 in both worlds and do reasonably
well is a unique aspect of this pair of classes in the SCCA. Rather
than drive the two classes apart, why not have some more of the road
race guys show up at an autox on an off weekend? Autox (at the
regional level) doesn't take anywhere near the time commitment a road
race does, and you'd be advertising the class to a bunch of grassroots
racers. That's how I found out about the class (thanks ted!).
Getting FTD (shouldn't be hard at most local events) and telling the
folks they can go road racing for less than their street car costs has
got to be good advertising for the class.
