We have a start at a comparison, but so far it isn't truly apples to apples because the ground rules haven't been established for what one can and cannot do to a 4-stroke in this class. Or how they will be enforced.

We therefore do not have the expense of the all the 4-stroke "stock" motor upgrade and maintenance tricks to run at the front of the pack and last.

Brand-new Rotaxes were about $2700 brand new until the Euro smashed the dollar. It may well be that a new GSXR600 is truly a cheaper new motor/tranny combo (currently) in spite of significant extra compexity.

Jay quotes 2-stroke parts like new crankshaft, clutch weights and specially hardened rollers as part of the 2-stroke prep costs, yet we have no info yet on comparable 4-stroke preparation.

What are the necessary parts to make the 4-strokes make the most "stock" HP and last? Does that include tearing apart a brand new 4-stroke to blueprint it?

Will all the usual 4-stroke tuners tricks on a "stock" motor be as cheap or cheaper on a 20 valve motor as opposed to a Cortina/Pinto 8 valve motor?

I.e. Indexing the crank, set deck heights and cc chambers for max legal compression, trick valve job on 20 valves, measuring and matching 20 valve springs for installed height and pressure, timing the camshafts. Check and adjust ignition advance curve. ECU mods?

Then specially hardened shift forks and dogs for the tranny. Mods to the internal shift linkage?

Racing clutch disk and pressure plate to cope with extra weight and grip of 4 tires?

As a fist cut, I reckon that at least FF1600-like motor and Hewland racing prep costs will be a starting point for any "stock" 4-stroke class motor.

As a sanity check: What does Ivey charge to take a brand new Cortina/Pinto motor and make it perform as a front runner? parts+labor? What does a shop charge to make a new Hewland work properly?

Since this GXSR is a FI motor, then we also must consider the typical cost of blueprinting the injectors for equal flow as well as any other FI tricks like hand selecting the sensors like the water temp sensor for the best HP.
Re-contour and polish throttle bodies?
