Jack,

I don't suppose you already have the car built, do ya? I'd love to test it at TMS.

Subject: [F500] RE: F500 "Next Generation" Engine and "Proof of Concept" Request

The following is the letter I sent to the BOD and the CRB today. If you
agree with it, please tell the CRB by email ASAP. If I've missed the mark,
at least tell me, so that I can keep working on it.

Jay, I can't get this to "load" on eformulacar. I'll be appreciative if
you'll send it there.

To: Board of Directors and Club Racing Board

Subject: 1. F500 "Next Generation" Engine/Spec Changes
               2. Request to Run "Proof of Concept"

Gentlemen:

This letter responds to the CRB's April 2007 Fastrack invitation for
input on the "next generation" F500 engine.

F500 "Next Generation Engine/Spec Changes
I believe the F500 class and the SCCA are at a crossroads at which
we have an opportunity to make an engine choice that will assure survival of
a stable, economical ($20,000 range), entry level, National formula class,
based on the current F500 specification and in which currently competitive
cars remain competitive.

The critical choice would change our engine specification to allow
the use of production (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha), four cycle,
watercooled, 600cc motorcycle engines, with integral transmissions, as stock (excepting clutches and necessary oil pan modifications). This choice would
assure a virtually limitless supply of economical, EPA compliant engines.
It also would appeal immediately to the shifter kart and SAE engineering
cadres we have been trying to reach, as well as respond to the
traditionalists seeking four cycle sound and shifting "fury".

The essential condition to this choice is that it be made with a
commitment to preserving the competitiveness of the current Rotax powered
cars. Presently, I suggest that the most practical way to baseline and
assure preservation of this competitiveness is with a single, common round
air flow restrictor determined by testing as requested below and applied, if necessary, to all engines produced after a date (for example, 2002 and up FI
engines).

The only other change to the F500 specification that I would permit
would be an optional, spec, coil-over shock. These shocks would cost no
more than the current suspension system.

Request to Run "Proof of Concept" Car
Because of the significantly different performance characteristics
of the alternative two cycle 500cc/CVT and heavier four cycle 600cc/shifter
packages, I believe competitiveness cannot be established on a dynamometer
and will have to be baselined on track performance.

Accordingly, I request permission to modify a 2000 Maverick by
installing a 600cc motorcycle engine as described above, and to enter and
run that car, on a non-points basis, with the F500 class, in Regional and
National events, during the remainder of the 2007 season. My plan is to
make this car available to competitive drivers for such testing.

Please let me know if you wish any further information concerning my
request. To guide the pace of car modification, I would appreciate any
preliminary feedback you can share with me.

Very truly yours,

Jack Walbran
