Besides color choices, epoxy and powder coat are also probably very poor
choices for crack detection. OK for show cars that don't get driven.
That is because those paints are flexible and stretch across underlying
cracks without splitting open on the surface.
As with magnesium wheels, the best paint to use is a cheap brittle lacquer.
Those also are even getting hard to find at the hardware store.
I just went thru this on my Jongbloed magnesium centers. Had a few talks
with Bill Jongbloed over in Silver City.
Unless one plans to totally strip all paint off once a year on your frame,
suspension part, or wheel, I would use a cheap brittle paint in a light
color like gray.

I can't recommend black for your frame. My KBS is black and it's almost
impossible to find cracks.
