Gil, I think I was at that race with Lenny. But I thought instead of him saying, "What rains (tires)"?, he actually said, "What rain'?
I really don't think he ever saw the rain. What a great race today! Do you think they should've stopped the race ? I think Marcus wished they hadn't ! The best race in the rain I ever saw was at Summit Point when the skies burst open while the F5's and the Vee's were out on the track going at it ! It was torrential and the red flag was thrown and all pitted to put on their rains ! All did except one ! The race was restarted and - as usual - we expected to see the vee's to make their push to the front of the pack -their suspension advantage clicking in the rain ! All that is except Lennie Seitz - driving an older, extremely "stiff suspended" Wormer F5" built by his friend Mike Wormer ! Lennie charged to the front using an inordinate amount of car control that had to rank up there with some of Senna's best work ! Slipping and a sliding and all the while with each lap putting more distance between himself and the Vee train trying so desperately to slipstream up to that Wormer ! Lenny won by a large margin and - of course - all those that had watched this stellar performance rushed to met him at the weigh-in to shake his hand and give him a hug while offering their congratulations and admiration for such an amazing performance ! Then somebody asked "hey Lennie - why didn't you put on your rains ?" "What rains ! I don't have any ! " Ah - the Spirit of F5 ! Poor Kimmie - another DNF ! Maybe Massa after all ?
