Sure, go for it. Just don't commit it to the main repository since I
have a version with changes and I don't want merge headaches. Pastebin
it or post to the mailing list.

Have you considered writing/contributing your own factor code? What is
more interesting is what makes things easier to write from scratch
rather than how to refactor existing code, which is relatively easy.
