First I must apologize for using a public forum for what might be
considered a private correspondence, but hopefully the subject might
interest others.
I've been intrigued by NixOS ever since reading an entry on Chris Double's
blog entitled Installing NixOS on a ThinkPad W540 with encrypted root
<http://bluishcoder.co.nz/2014/05/14/installing-nixos-with-encrypted-root-on-thinkpad-w540.html>.
Having just purchased a ThinkPad E545 myself (and thinking because of the
similar model numbers they were similar machines - they're not - mine is
~$1k cheaper and less capable!), the entry caught my attention. I follow
Chris's blog primarily because of his status as one of the early
contributors to Factor development. Unfortunately, the blog entry mentions
nothing about Factor (and there doesn't appear to be a way to enter
comments in either his blog or his Google+ postings - I checked).
So my question for Chris, or anyone else who feels like chiming in, is:
What problems am I likely to encounter in getting Factor to run under
NixOS? The Factor download page lists requirements as: "Ubuntu Linux 9.04
(other distributions may also work)". I've always run (K,X,no leading
letter)ubuntu before, but I'm looking for a change. Any other Linux
distributions recommended, especially with an eye towards running Factor on
them?
Thanks,
-John
