Well I did a google search on the first set of researchers from the original link you posted, and while there are quite a few hits, all of them seem to be from basically one type of source--alternative New Age online journals which seem to have little or nothing to do with any working addiction programs, other than making claims. I don't know about you , but if I had a life-threatening habit such as smoking, I don't think turning to the Embo Journal or the American Buddhist Society would be amongst the first places I would go to.

People in situations like that need immediate help, even if it's only a hand to hold or a shoulder to lean on. I just don't think offering them theories and statistics is either very helpful or very compassionate.
