Then I stand corrected. If that is the accepted wisdom then so be 
it. It should then be standard practice that they are kept alive if 
there is accepted evidence that such cases are not permanent as many 
doctors say they are.
Some dichotomy here no? What is the accepted wisdom. The courts 
appear to be trying to uphold that.

Good point. Just why are we in Iraq in a quagmire with most people 
in Iraq now living in severe degradation, civil war, rape, and 
bombings?

Why all the fear of death. Theoretically we will be able to keep all 
people alive forever in vegetative states in the near future.

How many Teri Schiavos are there in the US? The number is growing 
due to more and more advanced medical practices.
